THEORIES OF ASIAN ARCHITECTURE (ARC60704)

Through three key themes: sustainability, tradition, and modernity & globalisation, the subject examines the history of South, Southeast, and East Asian architecture as a whole within a systematic treatment of architectural design and construction, building science and technology, garden design, and city planning. These themes will guide the organisation of weekly lectures and projects, which will progress from the creation of a basic theoretical apparatus to the investigation of specific cases. Through a research poster and an oral presentation, students will gain a better understanding of Asian architecture and urbanism, as well as interpret Asian architectural language.
