Reading the Contexts of Traditional Streets

Project Tasks & Overview

1. Students must conduct a virtual visit to ONE of the assigned traditional streets in order to study their unique place contexts.

Kuala Lumpur: Jalan Tun H.S. Lee, Wet market of Petaling Street, Jalan Hang Lekir, Jalan Sultan, Medan Pasar, Lorong Panggung
Malacca: Jalan Hang Kasturi, Jalan Tokong-Jalan, Tukang Besi, Jalan Kampung Kuli, Jalan Kampung Pantai, Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock

Based on the suggested map, students will need to define the street's boundary.


2. Using the following criteria, identify the physical and non-physical contexts of the selected streets.
Religious structures, architecture facades and styles Shophouses, Market
Traditional trades/businesses, regional/traditional cuisines, historical events, and social institutions are non-physical examples.


3.Using a variety of sources (books, websites, articles, and so on), you must present your findings in the form of a manual sketch journal that follows the format specified in the submission requirements section.
