Project Tasks & Overview

A group project that is mainly divided into six parts to ease up students' learning process as a beginner for the architectural design process.

Part 1

Students are required to produce a series of tattoo stamps using basic design elements ad principles of the primary shapes.

Part 2

In this stage, tattoo stamps from part 1 will be improved using appropriate drawing tools, and the implementation of reference points, scale, proportion, and rules.

Part 3

Students need to apply different compositions to the artworks that were selected from part 2 to further explore and develop the design process. At the same time, artworks that are produced during part 3 need to express two descriptive words selected from the project brief.

Part 4

One artwork will be chosen from part 3 and transformed into six different 3D models depicting the descriptive words in part 3.

Part 5

By using the same design elements and principles in part 4, students need to build 3 different types of cubes, namely addition, subtraction, and frame cube.

Part 6

In the final stage, students will choose or combine the best ideas from part 5 to produce 3 types of refined and finalized cube models. In the meantime, students need to draw relevant diagrams on the board to briefly describe the whole design process of this project, and explain the design elements, principles used to express the descriptive word chosen.

Reflection

In this project, I have learned about the importance of applying design elements and principles to my design. I have always thought that designs are randomly done and are always hard to understand, but upon completing Project 1, I can now read and grasp the design basics of artwork easily.

The biggest challenge that I faced in this project is during Part 4. The reason behind this is because it was challenging for me to transform a 2D artwork into a 3D model as the drawing doesn't carry any depth or form.

However, it was a nice experience working with my fellow groupmates even though we have only met a few times before the third wave of Covid-19 hits.

To conclude, Project 1 is challenging for me as this is my first time applying design elements and principles in my design process and it also represents the starting point for me to set off my architecture student life.
