FINAL PROJECT
TOY DESIGN : PLAY AND THE ACT OF PLAY
TASK
You are working with a non-governmental organization (NGO) to assist a community located in a rural and remote area. As a designer, you are assigned to the children's and youth's group to design a toy or an object of play. Body parts and movements are synonymous with toys as they are the enablers for the play or the act of play to take place. You will be assigned A BODY PART as your main focus in designing the toy. Different body parts and movements respond differently to a toy when performing a play or the act of play. Your task is to design a toy based on the body part assigned to you.
WORK PROGRESS
DECIDING THE PLATFORM
In my first assignment, I did it all manually. But after using Canva from assignment 2, I found it very convenient to use and so I decided to carry out my final project on Canva. It is time-saving and it has a variety of stickers that I can use for my project. Without hesitation, I straight away started my final project on Canva.
DESIGN THINKING PROCESS
I started to investigate the act of play and analyzed my findings into infographic style. It was hard at first because I wasn't sure if I did it correctly. But after the tutorial, I realized that my empathy was lack of case study and solid research and there is where I had to improve.
MAKING OF THE TOY
I started to make the toy out and it was really fun to do it. I thought it would be a hassle but out of expectation, I enjoy this stage very much!
TESTING OUT THE TOY
Testing out the toy is really interesting, I really love this toy and my family also give positive feedback regarding the toy. I love this toy even I am not a kid anymore.
REFLECTION
I enjoy this final project very much. I feel like it is easier to do this final project since I gain some experiences from assignment 1 & 2, and become more familiar with design thinking process. I acquired a lot of new knowledge through this module and it will definitely help me through my college and university life!
