ASSIGNMENT 1
“PROBLEM: CREATE A GIFT FOR A SOMEONE YOU CAN’T MEET IN PERSON”
TASK
The situation is problematic. Circumstances are such that our movements are restricted due to environmental hazards. This situation has forced many to stay indoors and to communicate through long distances, using available and appropriate online methods. However, your friend’s birthday is coming soon, and you need to create a gift for him or her. The gift must be ‘created or designed’ as you already know, so that it holds much better value and it should be a surprise!
WORK PROGRESS
EMPATHY FIRST TRY
This was my very first empathy. I discovered some characteristics of my friends, jot down her personalities, and her basic information. From here I get to know the needs of my user. But after Ms. Dee's feedback, I feel like there isn't enough information so I added more information in empathy and rearranged the layout of my empathy.
DEFINE FIRST TRY
I concluded the information that I acquired from empathy and came out with a gift idea that fits her needs. However, I did not fully interpret the aim or a clear problem statement and I didn't manage to think critically during this stage.
IDEATION FIRST TRY
At first, I had only 3 different ideas. Which is Game of Thrones sandbags, 14-Day clean meal recipe, and vocab learning board. In the end, I found that 3 ideas are not enough for my ideation. Fortunately, Ms. Dee taught us some of the strategies for doing ideation, and then I got to solve my problem.
PROTOTYPE FIRST TRY
Before the lecture, I have no idea what is a prototype and I've never heard of it in my high school. I first thought it was a planner that shows the instructions of the making. After watching the lecture and tutorial, I realized that prototype is the stage that you justify your design and to test out your product so that you can modify them to a better version.
REFLECTION
This assignment is where I started to learn about design thinking. I found that design thinking is applicable in our daily life and it's a helpful problem-solving skill. It is very crucial in design process because it helps designer to understand the needs of users and to create a product that suits the users needs. On the other hand, I also learned how to utilize infographic skills while doing this assignment. However, this assignment is quite difficult for me since I never learnt anything like this in my high school years. Still, I think this is where I have to step out of my comfort zone and grow up!
